Fly camping

Camp under a star-lit African sky

Tongole offers one-night or two-night 'fly' camping trips within the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

One-night ‘fly’ camping trip

Guests can sleep under the stars, under a mosquito net erected on a decked area close to the lodge. A guide stays close-by and dinner is served, in keeping with the lodge service standards.

Read a guest’s TripAdvisor review of the one-night fly camping trip.  A guest from the UK camped at one of our remote locations near a waterfall, describing it as a ‘magical experience’!

Two-night ‘fly’ camping trip

The two-night camping adventure starts with a day trek to a campsite on the banks of the Bua River. On arrival dome tents are pitched, with comfortable thick sleeping roll mats laid out and hot-water-bottles are provided on cooler nights. The second night is normally closer to the lodge, on a raised decked area with mosquito netting that lets guests sleep under the African Star canopy.  Home-cooked food, drinks and top of the range camping equipment is all provided to ensure that guests can enjoy this experience in comfort and safety.

“Guests were welcomed with chilled sundowners. At sunset the sounds of night owls delighted them. The guests slept so well, forgetting they were in the bush!   As sunrise welcomed a new dawn, bird song gently woke them”.  Extract from the diary of a Tongole guide.
